Liam Payne was planning to marry me, says girlfriend Kate Cassidy

One Direction singer Liam Payne wrote a letter to his girlfriend shortly before his death in which he predicted that they would get married within a year, she revealed.

Kate Cassidy posted a new tribute to him on Wednesday, a week after he died after falling from a balcony in Argentina at the age of 31.

“A few weeks ago we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our life together,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’m keeping your note close to me, even though you told me not to look at it. It said: ‘Kate and I are getting married within a year/engaged and together forever.’

She also posted a series of photos, including one with a handwritten note from him.

She added: “Liam, I know we will be together forever, but not like we planned. You will always be there for me. I gained a guardian angel.

“I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me wherever I go. Forever yours, Katelyn.”

Payne had been in a relationship with the American influencer since 2022, and a few days before his death she was with him in South America.

But when Payne was killed on October 16, Cassidy had already left the country.

“Love of my life”

She began her Instagram message: “I don’t even know where to start. My heart is devastated in a way I can’t put into words.

“I wish you could see what a huge impact you have made on the world, even when it’s so dark right now. You have brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone – millions of fans, your family, friends and especially me. You are so incredibly lovely.

“You are – because I can’t say you were – my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, illuminating every room you entered.”

She continued, “None of this feels real to me and I can’t get over this new reality of you not being here. I’m trying to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together I must be children again and always find joy in the smallest things.

“Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. I feel like I’ve lost the best part of me. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.”

Payne’s sudden death sparked grief among his family, friends and fans around the world.

His father Geoff is currently in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires while authorities carry out tests before allowing his body to be returned to the UK.

They are also examining evidence from his phone, computer and security cameras to determine the full circumstances of his death.
