A Rayman remake is reportedly in development

This was recently reported Ubisoft he disbanded the team from the back Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown shortly after the release of the Mask of Darkness DLC. The creators of this team eventually split into different projects. According to reports, one of such projects is, among others, Rayman remake.

The former creators of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown moved on to the unannounced Rayman Remake

From Insider Gaming’s Grant Taylor-Hill, a dozen or so developers from the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team are working on the Rayman remake. According to their sources, the unannounced game is codenamed “Project Steamboat” and was developed primarily by Ubisoft Milan. It was also reported that Rayman creator Michel Ancel is a consultant on the project. The creator’s involvement has raised some concerns as he is accused of toxic leadership.

Taylor-Hill also reports that other developers from the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team have moved on to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2, as well as the next Ghost Recon game. That’s a shame, considering that Gautoz reported that the developers considered their work on the metroidvania to be a sort of “rehabilitation zone” for people who were burnt out from making Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Ubisoft seems to be in an extremely fragile state right now. Despite its critical success, the game development giant rejected the proposal and second expansion for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown due to failing to meet sales targets. Due to the franchise, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was indefinitely delayed until recently, when a trailer showed a very wide (and likely very delayed) release window of 2026.

Ubisoft was also forced to rethink its launch strategy due to Star Wars Outlaws’ poor performance at launch. This caused the company to delay the release of the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows game to February 2025 and avoid staggered releases. In turn, the collector’s edition of the upcoming action-adventure game has received a price reduction of $50.
