Giants owner John Mara does not anticipate taking up coaching or changing GM after the 2024 season

The Giants’ recent decline began in 2023 after a struggling 6-11 campaign that saw Daniel Jones suffer an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Week 8, limiting him to just six games as the quarterback also dealt with a neck injury before the end season. This was Jones’ first season after the Giants signed the current No. 6 pick to a four-year, $160 million contract.

Jones returned fully healthy in 2024, but the Giants’ offensive problems persist. In seven games with Jones at the helm, New York’s offense has per-game averages that rank in the bottom third of the NFL, allowing 290.7 yards of total offense (28th), 189.1 yards passing (23rd), 101 .6 rushing yards (25th) and 14.1 points (31st).

In his sixth season, Jones completed 1,442 passes (62.5 percent completion), along with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

Mara declined to comment on Jones’ case Wednesday, adding that Battista said his focus was on Daboll and Schoen.

Mary’s words Wednesday, three days after New York’s upsetting 28-3 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in which former Giants quarterback Saquon Barkley excelled with 176 rushing yards and a touchdown in his first game back at MetLife Stadium.

Barkley left the Giants via free agency following the contract negotiations mentioned in the article Hard hitsfirst-ever off-season offering this summer. As part of the drama, Mara said on the show that he would “have a hard time sleeping if Saquon went to Philadelphia” before the fan favorite signed with the Eagles.

Despite the lack of success over the last two seasons, New York has had some positives, most recently the first-round selection of wide receiver Malik Nabers in the 2024 draft. The Giants also have the pieces to succeed, especially on defense, including defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. a and pass rushers Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns, the latter of whom was acquired last offseason in a trade.

Still, there hasn’t been much fanfare surrounding the Giants, who have yet to win a home game in the year the club celebrates its 100th season.

On Wednesday, Mara gave Daboll and Schoen a vote of confidence, hoping his patience would soon pay off.
