Prepare a summary of HOA week 9

With only one Friday night left in the 2024 North Central Activity Association football season, there are still some doubts as to who will be the NCAA football champions, but most of those questions were answered last Friday night when Moundridge defeated Sedgwick by 1 point in overtime.

The Wildcats defeated the Cardinals 41-40 in overtime and remain atop the NCAA rankings as the only undefeated team. The Wildcats enter the final week of the regular season with a record of 6-0, 5-0. Sedgwick suffered its first loss of the season and is now 5-1, 4-1.

Ell-Saline, which has not played in HOA competition this season, is also 6-1 this season.

Moundridge will conclude the regular season next Friday night with a game against Inman Stadium, and Sedgwick will end the regular season by hosting Remington. Ell-Saline will finish the regular season at Central Plains Stadium.

The Inman Lady Teutons won the 2024 HOA volleyball title with an undefeated 14-0 march on the HOA schedule, but the HOA volleyball courts have already started the postseason.

The HOA still has seven teams in the postseason, which will compete in Saturday’s substate tournaments. The Bennington Lady Bulldogs, Inman Lady Teutons and Sedgwick Lady Cardinals won regional championships to earn a spot in Saturday’s substate round.

The Berean Academy Lady Warriors, Marion Lady Warriors, Moundridge Lady Wildcats and Sterling Lady Black Bears finished as regional runners-up to earn a spot in Saturday’s substate tournament.

Here’s what each school and HOA team has done or will do so far in the fall 2024 campaign:

BENNINGTON

Bulldog football lost 7vol on Friday in its 2024 season opener, losing 47-14 to Inman. The Bulldogs will end the regular season on Friday with a game against Herington. … The Lady Bulldog volleyball team played a nonconference doubleheader on Thursday at Solomon Stadium, winning 23-25, 25-7, 25-18 and 25-14, 25-14. The Lady Bulldog volleyball team qualified for Saturday’s Class 2A substate tournament after winning the Class 2A regional tournament on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs won the regional tournament, defeating Sacred Heart 25-12, 25-23, 25-11, 25-16 against Marion and 21-25, 26-24, 25-14 against Chase County. The Lady Bulldogs will play a substate game against Moundridge on Saturday.

ELL-SALINE

After starting the 2024 season with a loss, the Cardinal football team has won six straight games, including a 58-8 victory over Goessel this past Friday night. The Cardinals will end the regular season on Friday with a game at Central Plains. … Lady Cardinal volleyball finished the 2024 season with a record of 11-23, 4-10. The Lady Cardinals’ season ended after Monday’s 0-3 loss in the Class 2A regional tournament. The Lady Cardinals lost 25-13, 25-19 to Hutch Trinity, 25-15, 25-5 to Valley Heights and 25-11, 25-16 to Hillsboro.

BEREAN ACADEMY

The Warrior football team dropped to 6th placevol game of the season on Thursday when they lost 2-0 to Wichita West. The Warriors defeated Buhler 4-0 on Tuesday. … The Lady Warrior volleyball team ended the regular season on Friday with a non-conference doubleheader against Central Christian Academy, losing 16-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-19, 25-21. The Lady Warriors finished the regular season with an 18-19 record. The Lady Warriors qualified for Saturday’s Class 2A substate tournament after placing second in the Class 2A regional tournament on Monday. In the regional tournament, the Lady Warriors defeated Solomon 25-17, 25-18 and Wabaunsee 25-12, 25-13, but lost 25-15, 25-18 to Inman.

TRINITY HUTCHINSON

The Celtic soccer team suffered its fourth defeat of the season on Friday, losing 13-0 to Medicine Lodge. The Celtics will end the regular season on Friday against Sterling. … The Lady Celtic volleyball team finished the regular season on Thursday playing in a non-conference threesome. The Lady Celtics lost 25-11, 25-10 to Hoisington and 25-16, 25-22 to Ellsworth. The Lady Celtics finished their season on Monday with a record of 14-20, 6-8. The Lady Celtics’ season ended with a 1-2 record in the Class 2A regional tournament. The Lady Celtics defeated Ell-Saline 25-13, 25-19, but lost 25-13, 25-12 to Hillsboro and 25-18, 25-17 to Valley Heights.

INMAN

The Teutonic football team picked up its fourth win of the season on Friday, defeating Bennington 47-14. The Teutons will conclude the regular season next Friday against Moundridge. … The Lady Teuton volleyball team concluded the regular season on Thursday by winning a non-conference doubleheader against Pratt-Skyline. The Lady Teutons won 25:16, 25:13 and 25:11, 25:17. The Teutonic Knights qualified for Saturday’s Class 2A substate tournament by winning the Class 2A regional tournament. The Lady Teutons won the region with 25-8, 25-4 wins over Solomon, 25-12, 25-13 over Wabaunsee and 25-15, 25-18 over Berean Academy.

MARION

The Warrior football team picked up its fifth win of the season on Friday, defeating Remington 42-18. The Warriors will conclude the regular season next Friday against Valley Heights. … The Lady Warrior volleyball team qualified for Saturday’s Class 2A substate tournament after placing second in Monday’s Class 2A regional tournament. The Lady Warriors defeated Sacred Heart 25-12, 25-13 and Chase County 26-24, 16-25, 25-22, but lost 24-11, 25-16 to Bennington and finished in 2nd placeII in the regional tournament. The Lady Warriors will open substate play on Saturday against Herington.

MOUNDRIDGE

The Wildcat football team remained undefeated this season on Friday night with a 41-40 overtime win over Sedgwick. The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season on Friday with a game at Inman Stadium. … The Lady Wildcat volleyball team closed out the regular season on Thursday with an HOA doubleheader against Sterling, winning 25-27, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-23, 25-18. The Lady Wildcats qualified for Saturday’s Class 2A substate tournament after placing second in the regional tournament on Monday. The Lady Wildcats placed 2ndII in regionals after defeating Republic County 25-20, 25-16 and Remington 25-21, 25-8. The Lady Wildcats lost to Herington 25-16, 19-25, 25-22. The Lady Wildcats will face Bennington in their first substate match on Saturday.

REMINGTON

On Friday, the Bronco football team lost its fifth game of the season to Marion, 32-18. The Broncos will end the regular season on Friday with a game against Sedgwick. … The Lady Bronc volleyball team finished 9-24, 1-11 for the second time on Monday after going 1-2 in the regional tournament. On Monday, the Lady Broncos defeated Republic County 28-26, 27-29, 26-24, but lost 25-21, 25-8 to Moundridge and 25-22, 25-8 to Herington.

SEDGWICK

On Friday, the Cardinal football team suffered its first loss of the season, losing 41-40 in overtime to Moundridge. The Cardinals will end the regular season on Friday with a game against Remington. … The Lady Cardinal volleyball team qualified for Saturday’s Class 2A substate tournament by winning the Class 2A regional tournament. The Lady Cardinals won the region, beating Yates Center Blues 25-12, 25-13, 25-19, 25-8 and Oswego 25-4, 25-7. The Lady Cardinals will open substate play against Northeast.

STERLING

The Black Bear football team picked up its fourth win of the season on Friday, defeating South Sumner 55-18. The Black Bears will end the regular season on Friday with a game against Hutch Trinity. … The Lady Black Bear volleyball team ended its 2024 regular season on Thursday after losing an HOA doubleheader to Moundridge. The Lady Black Bears lost 25-27, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-23, 25-18. On Saturday, the Lady Black Bears qualified for the Class 2A substate tournament by placing 2ndII in Monday’s regional tournament. The Lady Black Bears placed 2ndII in the regional competition, defeating Medicine Lodge 25-12, 25-19 and Sublette 25-11, 25-16. The Lady Black Bears lost 21-25, 25-20, 25-17 to Sylvan in the regional league. The Lady Black Bears will open substate play against Ellinwood.
