A heroic off-duty doctor fought to save an heavily pregnant mother who fell 30 meters from a skyscraper.

Nana Larbi, 33, ran downstairs to save the life of her neighbor Emma Atkinson, who fell from the ninth floor of Shakespeare Towers in Leeds on Tuesday morning.

A doctor from Leeds General Infirmary administered essential first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but Emma was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms. Larbu was shocked by the tragedy, but said: “I did what I could.”

A few days before her death, Emma was photographed in high spirits at a gender reveal party hosted by her daughter Demi (18) on Sunday.

Devastated Demi revealed on Facebook how thrilled her mother was to become a grandmother to her baby son, who was due in April.

Posting photos from a gender reveal party with partner Alfie Milburn, Demi wrote: ‘You couldn’t wait to be a grandma.

I can’t believe I have to do all this without you, mom. I promise I will do everything in my power to make you proud and make sure (your) boys are well.

“I need you so much, mom, please come home. I just want to kiss you and hear your voice. I love you more than life itself, mom.

Izrael Larbi (37) told how the tragedy shocked his wife Nana.

Mr Larbi, who lives in the flat next to the one Emma fell from, said: ‘She is a doctor. She was at home when it happened. She heard a noise in the corridor – a lot of screaming. She looked out the hole in the door and saw the man who lived next door.

– He was pressing on the elevator. She opened the door and he told her that his daughter had fallen.

– So she took the elevator to join him downstairs. She went downstairs to help the doctors with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

– She didn’t take it very well. The whole situation was traumatic for her. She called me today and said she had to come home from work.

Returning home from work, Dr. Larbi stated that she was too shaken to relive the tragedy, but modestly added: “I did what I could.”

Last night, Demi joined family and friends to release balloons in memory of her mother from outside the skyscraper.

Officers say there are “no suspicious circumstances” surrounding her death.

Dave Capper, 66, who has lived at Shakespeare Towers for 26 years, said there have been a number of deaths from heights at the complex.

He said: “The windows actually have security features. They can only be opened so far. However, you can press the small latch and it will open halfway.

“You’d have to be a little person, but you could get out.” It’s really not very safe.

“It’s not the first time someone has fallen from a window here about five or six years ago.

“I didn’t know Emma personally, but it’s tragic.”

Tributes continued to be paid outside the skyscraper, including a heartbreaking message from her grieving daughter Demi.

She wrote: “Rest in paradise, mom. You were one of a kind. I miss you more than anything, too perfect for this world.

I love you forever. Love your girlfriend.

Another note from a friend added: “My Em. You were definitely too perfect for this world.

I promise that I will always make sure that the children are okay and that they are well taken care of. I miss you so much.’

One pal who came to lay flowers described Emma as “bubbly”, “outgoing” and “a friend to everyone”.

She said: “It lit up the room. She always came and came back.

“She loved her children, absolutely. It’s just tragic.

“It’s a miracle her baby survived. She is obviously strong, just like her mother was throughout her life.

Emma’s last Facebook post from a month ago shows her posing in front of a mirror, showing off her baby bump while her baby cuddles her legs.

In the comments, she confirmed that her due date was then 10 weeks away.

She wrote: “It’s a girl, I couldn’t be happier.”

Police said there were “no suspicious circumstances” in Emma’s death.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 10.24am following an incident in which a woman had fallen from a height at Shakespeare Towers in Shakespeare Approach, Burmantofts.

– The woman died on the spot as a result of her injuries.

“There were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner’s office was informed.

“The 30-year-old woman was in the late stages of pregnancy, and after the incident her baby was born in hospital and is under intensive care.”

Wakefield Coroner’s Court confirmed it had received records relating to Emma’s death.

Leeds City Council Labor councilor Luke Farley described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and said there were many young families living in the area.

He said: “I also want to assure residents that there will be a police presence there in the next day or so.”

Councilor Asghar Khan added that he was “very saddened by this shocking news.”
