Blinkit launches EMI feature for orders above ₹2,999; Internet users give mixed reactions: “A disaster in creation…”

Zomato-owned Blinkit launched its EMI payment service for its customers on Thursday. EMI facility is available for orders above 2999.

However, this feature is not available for gold and silver coins. The aim of the fast trading platform is to make products affordable and enable customers to plan financially.

Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa made the announcement on October.

“We have introduced EMI buying on Blinkit!

EMI options will be applicable on all the above orders 2,999 (except orders containing gold and silver coins)

We believe this will improve affordability and enable our customers to better plan financially,” Dhindsa wrote in X.

Reaction of social media users

While most social media users appreciated this new Blinkit feature, some users also expressed their concerns about buying groceries on installments.

“You will soon replace Amazon! Good job. Just wink!” said one of the X users.

Another user commented: “I’m starting to see visions of being king of the ‘jungle.’ I’m rooting for you!”

“The creativity shines through and it’s inspiring to watch,” another added.

Some X users believe this feature would be a disaster for financial planning.

“A disaster in creating personal finances!” wrote one user.

Another user expressed concern: “EMI on basic needs like provisions and groceries is a recipe for disaster for a generation that has low savings and high debt. “

“By introducing such cheap entertainment, you would bankrupt people,” added one user.

In a related development, Blinkit also rolled out its Seller Hub seller program on Wednesday. The Seller Hub will enable “self-service” selling through Blinkit for brands without the need to contact intermediaries or the platform, Blinkit’s chief technology officer Sajal Gupta wrote on X.

This feature is inspired by Amazon’s FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) feature, which allows the e-commerce platform to handle the storage, packaging, shipping, returns, and customer service of a seller’s product.
