Gunman refuses to leave Carmel Valley home, leading to SWAT standoff

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man involved in a possible domestic violence situation barricaded himself inside a Carmel Valley home early Friday morning, leading to a standoff with San Diego police.

Around 12 p.m., SDPD officers were called to the Highlands Village condominium complex for a reported incident on Golden Willow Trail.

Responding officers learned that a man was inside an apartment building and was armed with a handgun and refused to listen to calls to leave the home.

When a standoff ensued and a SWAT unit took up positions outside the apartment, shots were fired, police officials at the scene said without elaborating.

The ABC 10News Breaking News Tracker reported that SWAT officers used flash bangs in attempts to get the man out of the house.

The police assume that no one else is in the home with the man.

Residents of the complex were evacuated, ABC 10News learned.

The standoff was ongoing as of 5:30 am.
