Jazz found at bottom of ESPN’s latest NBA Power Rankings

Through their first four games of the 2024-2025 NBA season, the Utah Jazz are far from an easy path to get started. The team has started winless with an overall record of 0-4, saw their second-year starting forward Taylor Hendricks suffer a brutal leg injury at the end of the year, and still hasn’t gotten the most ideal production from their new rookie talent.

It’s no secret that this team’s rebuilding process won’t make a 180-degree turn overnight, but when you take a step back and look at how this season has started, it’s far from an attractive prospect.

While it’s a long season and there’s still plenty of time left on the schedule to flip the script, the Jazz are currently at the bottom of the league in team prestige – and that was evident in ESPNs latest power rankings after a week of NBA games.

From each of the 30 teams in the competition, ESPN insiders ranked the Jazz 29th in the NBA for their latest set of power rankings, appearing only in the Washington Wizardswho actually managed to win a game in their opening week, resulting in their 1-2 start.

“Cody Williams is the only one of the Jazz’s three rookies to get significant playing time, and he’s gotten off to a slow start as he adapts to the speed of the NBA game,” insider Tim MacMahon said when ranking Utah dived. “The No. 10 pick and younger brother of the Oklahoma City star Jalen Williamsthe rookie forward averaged 2.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 18.2% from the floor in 20 minutes per game during the Jazz’s 0-4 start. But the Jazz are excited about the 6-7, 190-pound teenager’s potential because of his excellent feel for the game and athleticism.”

The Jazz’s haven’t learned much across the board during their early sample size. The team ranks last in the NBA in points per game, bottom three in three-point percentage, top five in turnovers, and remains among the top ten in the league in points allowed. It’s a small amount of minutes to analyze, but regardless, it’s easy to see how Utah ended up where they are today.

With such a young core, it is not surprising to see that this team has had a difficult start early on, but as with any youth movement, it takes time to realize the intended growth and development. The Jazz have done an impressive job of stacking talent in their rebuild over the past three seasons, and while things may look ugly now, with patience, this group will have what it takes to turn the page in due time.

The Jazz get a chance to get back on their feet for their first win of the season on Halloween night when Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs travel to Delta Center at 7pm MT.
