Ross Colton, Miles Wood out

Just when it seemed like the Colorado Avalanche’s injury situation couldn’t get any worse, it did.

Jared Bednar said Wednesday morning that Ross Colton will miss six to eight weeks with a broken foot after leaving Monday night’s game against the Avalanche early. The coach also said Miles Wood will likely be out seven to 10 days due to an upper-body injury that he has been trying to play through but can’t.

This means the Avs will play the Tampa Bay Lighting on Wednesday night without six of the club’s top-10 forwards, worth more than $26 million in players.

“I feel like we’ve been through it a lot,” Bednar said. “Every year we seem to go through a process where we have to cut to get a line-up of twenty people. What makes this unique is that it comes straight out of the starting blocks.

“What we’re talking about is just controlling what you can control. I have no control over the injuries or who is in our room at any given time. My focus is on coaching the players who can play for us, and the players’ focus should be on doing their job to the best of their ability.”

Those two join Valeri Nichushkin (suspension), Artturi Lehkonen (shoulder), Jonathan Drouin (upper body) and Gabriel Landeskog (knee) on the unavailable list. Colorado recalled TJ Tynan from the Eagles and will also bring in extra defenseman Oliver Kylington at forward to fill the gaps.
