Detroit Lions Dan Campbell Jameson Williams is ‘worth continuing to play with’

The Detroit Lions are dealing with yet another issue involving wide receiver Jameson Williams.

While the wide receiver is serving the second of a two-game suspension this week against Green Bay, Williams was back in the news on Monday. Detroit police are investigating research why he avoided arrest after an Oct. 8 incident.

Lions coach Then Campbell said he had previously known about the incident. He said what Williams initially told him matched what was reported, and that the third-year wideout was honest with the team throughout the process.

“I don’t have anything beyond the last week,” Campbell said. ‘I knew all this. I know we made a statement. Kid has been honest with us and we are good.”

The coach has previously stated that he has confidence Williamseven after mistakes the young player has made. He said the Alabama product understands how these types of issues can affect the trajectory of his career.

Campbell continued to insist he still believes in Williams, both as a player and as a person.

“I think he’s become more and more aware of that over time, and I think that’s true,” Campbell explained. “Look, for me, I judge people by what’s in their heart, and I know what this kid is made of. And he’s worth being around. And so he’ll learn from this, he’ll grow, he’ll get better through all this.

When news of the suspension became public, Campbell praised the amount of growth Williams has shown over the course of his career. He continues to believe in the player and reiterated that he has shown a lot of development since entering the league.

“No, I mean, look, I know it definitely doesn’t look good. I understand that,” Campbell said. “But at the same time, it all came here at the same time and it’s really decision-making for him. That’s where he knows he can be better. Don’t put yourself in such situations. He will learn from this, grow from it. And I still think this player has grown enormously.”

With Williams’ suspensions and now the latest, details have been a big factor in his decision-making. As a result, Campbell said the team will continue to emphasize paying attention to the smaller elements when it comes to situations like this.

“You continue to coach him through that, teach him and let him know this is a different environment,” Campbell explained. “And you have to understand that you are looked at differently and you are looked at differently. When there is someone else, something happens and no one even knows about it. While they are watching, and every little thing here can make something big You just have to do your best to stay out of situations where something like this doesn’t happen.”

Campbell said the latest report won’t be much of a distraction for the team. He does not expect this to have lasting consequences for the rest of the team.

“No, you don’t want to have to deal with that and you don’t want the players to have to deal with it,” Campbell explained. “But at the same time, I really feel like it’s a bit of a non-issue for us and the players. He’s not here, he’s in the building and he’s doing what he can. But we also know that we haven’t .” We didn’t have him last week, we’re willing to not have him this week, and that’s just how we work.

“Really no different than, unfortunately, a guy who’s injured, he’ll be out, then we’re about the guys going to play and getting them ready to go,” Campbell continued. “We’re not looking forward to it, and how are those guys going to help us win the next game. I feel like that’s where we are as a team. No, I’d rather not answer (the question), but in the same way, I I don’t feel like this is a major distraction.
