Colonie Police: Saratoga man charged in bank robbery | News

COLONIE – A Saratoga man was charged Wednesday in connection with a bank robbery, police said.

His arrest led the police department to commend K-9 Eddie for helping them catch up with the suspect.

Arrested was Christian M. Aquino, 18, of Saratoga. He was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree grand larceny.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday when police received a robbery alarm from the Trustco Bank at 1 Johnson Road in Latham, police said.

Bank staff immediately called 911 and reported that a suspect had entered the bank wearing a mask, pointed a gun at the cash register and demanded an undisclosed amount of cash. The staff then complied, police said.

The suspect then fled with the money and tried to escape through a neighboring neighborhood, police said.

Witnesses in the area provided constant updates on the suspect’s movements and officers soon located Aquino in a nearby wooded area, police said.

Aquino was arrested without incident and was in possession of the stolen money, police said.

The firearm shown turned out to be an airsoft pellet gun, police said.

Police thanked bank staff for following protocol and community members for the real-time information they provided.

Police also recognized their drone unit and Colonie Police Kp Eddie for their contributions.

“Eddie successfully tracked Mr. Aquino throughout the area, located him in a concealed position and caused him to be taken into custody without any injuries to anyone involved,” police said in a news release.

Aquino was charged and ordered detained.
