Chili Shrimp Bao Bun Recipe – Lifestyle News

500 g raw shrimp cutlets

1 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons chili-garlic sauce

2 tablespoons cooking oil

8 bao buns

2 cups slaw mix

6 tablespoons mayonnaise

3 limes, 2 juiced, 1 halved

Salt and pepper

A handful of fresh coriander leaves

2 red peppers, thinly sliced

Method

  1. If using frozen shrimp, place them in a large bowl and cover with cold water and salt. Let stand 30 minutes or until thawed.
  2. Dress the lettuce with the mayonnaise and lime juice and season with salt and pepper. Toss until well mixed.
  3. Steam the bao buns according to the instructions on the package and cover with a clean tea towel until the shrimp are cooked.
  4. When the shrimp are ready, drain, rinse and pat dry with paper towels. Place them in a bowl and brush with chili-garlic sauce.
  5. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the shrimp for 1-2 minutes until they turn pink. Set aside.
  6. To assemble, place a small handful of salad in a bao bun, add the prawns and garnish with chilli and coriander leaves. Squeeze over some fresh lime juice before serving.

NOTE: These chili shrimp are easy to prepare on the barbecue if you are working outside.
