Phone theft: Trio caught after stealing 35 devices

A man and two teenage boys were convicted of a series of 35 separate phone thefts in south-east London last year.

Using electric motorcycles, the trio targeted people in Bermondsey and Greenwich, taking phones worth more than £20,000, the Met Police said.

Kie Joyce, 21, from Bermondsey, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison at Inner London Crown Court on September 19 for conspiracy to steal and driving offences.

The thefts also involved two 16-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons. One boy was sentenced to six months in prison at the Old Bailey on November 1. The other was given a nine-month supervision requirement at South London Magistrates’ Court on February 26.

Thirty of the phones have been successfully returned to their owners, the Met said.
