Berks woman arrested accused of shoplifting ,000 at Exeter Walmart

A St. Lawrence woman was arrested after Exeter Township police said she tried to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at 5900 Perkiomen Ave.

Samantha Dalton, 28, of the first block of Brumbach Street was stopped Saturday around 6:30 p.m. as she attempted to leave the store through a side exit in the automotive department.

According to court records:

A Walmart security officer saw a woman, later identified as Dalton, placing valuables into a cart. Suspecting that a shoplifting was about to occur, the office began surveilling Dalton and observing her pass all the outlets as she walked to the front exits, which were closed or blocked by store employees.

Store employees alerted Exeter police and Dalton was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.

She was free to await a hearing after arraignment before District Judge Steven Chiefo in Reading Central Court.

Court records show Dalton was also charged by Exeter police with shoplifting on Oct. 17. The charges were filed on Oct. 31, two days before Saturday’s incident, but she had yet to be charged on the previous charge.
