WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – I hope you enjoyed the warmth while we had it, because Wednesday will be our coldest day of the week. Highest temperatures today will struggle to reach 50° due to gusty northwest winds behind a cold front that arrived very early Wednesday morning. Scattered showers are still possible in the morning hours. Skies will start quite early and will be cloudy, but will clear up as the day progresses.

Temperatures this afternoon will be about 20° cooler than Tuesday afternoon.

With the little rainfall we have, we will continue to have an increased fire risk today. This is favored by gusty winds of 20-25 mph and relative humidity as low as 35-45%. The potential for improved fire risk will only be seen from Thursday evening to Friday morning.

Fire danger will remain high over the next few days due to the lack of rain Tuesday evening.

And if we’re talking about the night from Thursday to Friday morning, then another wave of rain is coming. This rain is still expected to be more widespread than last night’s rain. Rainfall totals will vary but could reach around 0.50 inches. For communities that receive a higher sum, it will help reduce wildfire risk. Another cold front will pass behind these downpours, but it won’t be as strong as the one that passed this morning.

Our best chance for rain the rest of the week is Thursday night into Friday morning.

High pressure will appear behind a cold front and scattered showers, and the situation will clear up on Friday and the weekend. Temperatures will be near 60° Thursday through early next week, but still not as high as they were earlier this week.

This weekend is mostly sunny. There should be less clouds on Saturday than on Sunday.
