Davenport man sentenced to eight years for firearms possession and drug trafficking

A Davenport man was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon and using the weapon to further his drug trafficking.

According to court documents, Marcell Alexander Kirk, 23, fled from police in November 2023. During the foot chase, Kirk disposed of a loaded handgun, and once he was caught, police discovered he was in possession of approximately 140 grams of marijuana.

In 2020, the Iowa District Court for Scott County found Kirk guilty of participating in criminal gang activity, making it illegal for Kirk to own or possess a firearm as a felon.

After his prison sentence, Kirk will have to serve three years of supervised release because there is no parole in the federal court system.
