Armed suspect taken into custody at Atlanta Four Seasons hotel

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An armed individual at the center of a SWAT standoff at the Four Seasons hotel in Midtown has been taken into custody, according to Atlanta police.

The police responded to a call from a ‘person with dementia’. They have not identified the suspect or said what led to the eventual standoff. A shelter-in-place order was in effect for the area around the hotel, but has been lifted.

Sounds such as gunshots and an explosion could be heard at the scene.

An Atlanta police officer said the person was believed to be armed with a large-caliber rifle.

“Out of an abundance of caution, units have established a perimeter to safely investigate the matter,” police said in a statement. “Citizens within the Four Seasons Hotel premises are advised to avoid windows and rooms overlooking the surrounding area.”

Two ambulances were seen at the scene and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. Officials did not say who was taken to the hospital.

The Four Seasons hotel is a 53-storey building and also offers 90 luxury apartments.
