RED BLUFF – A man recently received nearly three years in prison for crimes involving attempted robbery and assault.

According to the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office, Eric Alan Olson was equally intoxicated while wandering near Taco Bell. He approached a woman on a scooter and tried to take it from her, but a passerby intervened. Olson then approached a woman in a car, kicked open the door and attempted to carjack her. She shouted and sounded her horn. Olson fled but was quickly caught. Both victims were able to positively identify Olson.

In a separate incident, prosecutors said Olson attempted to commit shoplifting when a community member intervened. This person grabbed Olson as he attempted to leave the store. During the ensuing struggle, they fell and the Good Samaritan’s ankle broke.

Olson was convicted of two counts of attempted theft and one count of misdemeanor assault. He was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison.

The Red Bluff Police Department investigated these cases.
